Bell scores third straight Ashes ton

Bell scores third straight Ashes ton

England Cricketer Bell Score,Cricketer Bell Highest Score, England Batsman repeated Hundred, Bell 109 Scored, Bell highest Scored 2nd Test, Bell Scored Hundred,
Jack Hobbs (twice), Wally Hammond and Chris Broad are the only other English batsmen to achieve the same feat.

London: Ian Bell became only the fourth Englishman to score centuries in three consecutive Ashes matches when he made 109 in the second Test against Australia at Lord's on Thursday.

Bell's innings followed on from last week's 109 in England's 14-run win first Test win at Trent Bridge and his 115 at Sydney in January 2011 in the final match of Ashes-holders England's 3-1 series win 'Down Under'.

The only other English batsmen to achieve the same feat were Jack Hobbs, who did it twice in 1911/12 and 1924/25, Wally Hammond in 1928/29 and Chris Broad in 1986/87.

Smith's three counters Bell's hundred

England were in dire straits at 28 for three when Bell came to the crease on Thursday.

But by the time he was caught by Australia captain Michael Clarke off leg-spinner Steven Smith to end a more than five hour innings of 211 balls, including 16 fours, England were 271 for five.

"It's incredible, I've only just found out and it's a real honour to be with those names," Bell told reporters after stumps, with England 289 for seven.

This was Bell's fourth hundred in 14 Tests at Lord's and guaranteed him another mention on the dressing room honours boards that record all Test centuries made at the 'home of cricket'.

But before the signwriters could do their work, Bell's England team-mates had already marked his century.

"Lord's is a special place. The lads have put your tape on with the name on (the honours board) and when you do well it's really special," said Bell who has a ground Test average of nearly 60, compared to his career mark of 46.37.

Australia's Don Bradman, cricket's greatest batsman, scored centuries in six consecutive Ashes Tests between 1937 and 1938 and four between 1929 and 1930.

Bradman's sequence of six ended when he did not bat in The Oval Test in 1938. He scored centuries in the first two Tests of 1946/47. So he scored centuries in eight consecutive Ashes Tests in which he batted.

Charlie Macartney, David Boon and Greg Blewett also scored centuries in three consecutive Tests for Australia.

India batsman Manoj Tiwary tied the knot with girlfriend Sushmita Roy in a ceremony in Howrah on Thursday.

The 27-year-old, who also plays for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League, is currently sidelined with a knee injury that is expected to keep him out of competitive cricket for nearly four months.

Tiwary spoke about his relationship openly for the first time last year. The batsman reportedly met Sushmita about six years ago through a common friend. The duo was spotted partying during the New Year's Eve.

During last year's IPL, Tiwari smashed a six of Mumbai Indians pacer Lasith Malinga and according to the batsman, the big-hit was an answer to Sushmita, who had doubted his abilities against the maverick Sri Lankan bowler.

Tiwary has played 8 ODIs for India and has a high score of 104 not out against the West Indies. He has also played three Twenty20 internationals.

Sri Lanka squad
Dinesh Chandimal (capt),  Lahiru Thirimanne (vice capt),  Tillakaratne Dilshan,  Upul Tharanga,  Kumar Sangakkara,  Mahela Jayawardene,  Angelo Perera,  Jehan Mubarak,  Rangana Herath,  Sachithra Senanayake,  Ajantha Mendis,  Lasith Malinga,  Shaminda Eranga,  Thisara Perera,  Suranga Lakmal
In Thisara Perera,  Jehan Mubarak,  Tillakaratne Dilshan,  Angelo Perera
Out Kusal Perera,  Nuwan Kulasekara,  Dilhara Lokuhettige,  Jeevan Mendis.

Dinesh Chandimal will become Sri Lanka's youngest ever ODI captain, at 23, after being handed the reins for the first two matches against South Africa in Colombo. Regular captain Angelo Mathews was unavailable after earning a two-match suspension for an over-rate offence in the West Indies tri-nation series. Lahiru Thirimanne was named vice-captain.

Middle-order batsman Jehan Mubarak earned a recall, four years after his last international appearance. Now 32, Mubarak did not show sustained aptitude at the top level in his previous stints with the national team, despite a fine domestic reputation. He hit 42 in the practice match against the South Africans on Wednesday and had been the top-scorer in Sri Lanka's inter-provincial List A competition in January, with an average of 60 and a strike rate of 120.96. Uncapped middle-order batsman Angelo Perera was named in the 15-man squad as well, after top-scoring for his side in the warm-up match, with 46.

Allrounder Thisara Perera reclaimed his place after missing the West Indies tri-series. An injury to Nuwan Kulasekara's left ring finger, which was sustained in the Caribbean, ruled him out of the first two matches and Suranga Lakmal retained his place as Kulasekara's replacement. Tillakaratne Dilshan is also recovering from a tear to his right medial calf muscle, but was named in the squad and is expected to be fit for the first match. Upul Tharanga, who hit a career-best 174 not out in the West Indies after being picked as Dilshan's replacement, was also retained, at the expense of Kusal Perera, who opened for Sri Lanka in the Champions Trophy.

Ajantha Mendis kept his place as well, despite having played just one match in the tri-series, but will compete with left-arm spinner Rangana Herath and offspinner Sachithra Senanayake for a place in the XI. Sri Lanka also have part-time spin options in Mubarak and Angelo Perera, but legspinning allrounder Jeevan Mendis was omitted, after an unconvincing run.

Both matches will be played at the R Premadasa Stadium, but the squad may be changed ahead of the third ODI in Pallekele on July 26. The teams play five ODIs and three Twenty20s.

Ireland qualify for 2015 World Cup after dramatic Dutch tie.

The Netherland's number-nine batsman Rippon hit a four and six from the final two deliveries off Mooney to tie the game. Ireland on Tuesday qualified for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 after a dramatic last-gasp tie with the Netherlands. The Netherlands' number-nine batsman Michael Rippon hit a four and a six from the final two deliveries off John Mooney to snatch a point for his side.

But Ireland's point was good enough to see them top the ICC World Cup League Championship and advance, for the third successive time, to ICC's flagship event that will be staged in Australia and New Zealand in 2015.

After Tuesday's result, Ireland topped the table on 20 points, with nine wins from 12 matches.

There is still one place up for grabs from this tournament with four sides - Scotland, Netherlands, Afghanistan, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) - all still capable of claiming second position.

While the top two sides from the ICC World Cricket League Championship will go forward to the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, the six sides that do not qualify from this event will have a second chance to qualify through the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier New Zealand 2014, alongside Hong Kong, Nepal, Papua New Guinea and Uganda. The 10 teams will lock horns for the remaining two positions in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015.Score summary from the ICC World Cricket League Championship one-day international between the Netherlands and Ireland at Amstelveen on Tuesday:

Ireland 268-5 (E Joyce 96 n.o., N O'Brien 50, P Stirling 49) off 50 overs

Netherlands 268-9 (W Barresi 46, D van Bunge 45, E Szwarczynski 44; K O'Brien 3-52) off 50 overs

Result: match tied.

Pakistan great Hanif Mohammad has cancer operation

The 78-year-old underwent an operation that saw his right liver lobe and gall bladder removed.

Nottingham: Pakistan great Hanif Mohammad has had an operation for liver cancer, a family friend told AFP on Wednesday.
The 78-year-old underwent an operation at London Bridge hospital on Tuesday that saw his right liver lobe and gall bladder removed.File Photo: Hanif Mohammad in 1954.The operation was deemed a success, with surgeon Robert Hutchins saying: "It (the cancer) has been diagnosed at an early stage and it has not spread anywhere else."Mohammad is now set to spend one week in hospital for observation.
The first star of Pakistan cricket following the country's creation after the partition of India in 1947, Mohammad was also the first batsman to be known as the 'Little Master' -- a nickname now carried by India batting great Sachin Tendulkar.

Mohammad played the longest innings in Test history -- a mammoth 970-minute (16 hours and 10 minutes), 337 against the West Indies at Bridgetown in 1958.

Mohammad followed that a year later with what was then the record first-class score of 499, for Karachi against Bahawalpur in Karachi -- a mark that stood for 35 years until West Indies star Brian Lara made 501 not out for Warwickshire against Durham in the English County Championship at Edgbaston in 1994.

Three of Mohammad's brothers -- Wazir, Mushtaq and Sadiq -- also played for Pakistan, as did Hanif's son Shoaib.
